One of the most interesting developments of the Dutch company Leapfrog is the Bolt 3D printer, equipped with two separate printheads.
While most two-extruder 3D printers use a single assembly with two hot-ends and nozzles, Bolt is equipped with two separate extruders on a common rail. This configuration allows you to print with two materials or colors, or create two models at the same time. Of course, the use of common kinematics makes it possible only to print two identical models or mirror images simultaneously. On the other hand, when building one model with two materials, a separate design allows you to drive the deactivated head to the side and avoid getting residual plastic on new layers.
Otherwise, the design of the device is focused on maximum convenience and security. The on-board interface consists of a seven-inch touch screen, a USB port and a wireless connection (Wi-Fi) with the possibility of offline printing. The software has a print preview function, and you can monitor the process remotely using the built-in camera. If desired, instead of the branded slicer Creatr, you can use Simplify3D.
The size of the construction area reaches an impressive 330x320x205 mm with one or 300x320x205 mm with two extruders with a layer thickness of 50 to 350 microns and a print speed of up to 100 mm / s. The maximum temperature of direct extruders is 265 ° C or 380 ° C, depending on the type, and the table can be warmed up to 90 ° C. The company offers a range of branded supplies, but the printer can use filaments from other manufacturers with a diameter of 1.75 mm. Finally, the device is equipped with a HEPA filter with activated carbon, so you can not worry about harmful fumes and odors.
