Adidas continues to promote the concept of additive shoe manufacturing. This time, the company announced plans to create specialized “high-speed factories”.

Here, robots and 3D printers will make stylish sneakers and other shoes of the famous brand. The volume of production should reach half a million pairs per year, although it will take several years to reach full capacity. A similar venture will open on the other side of the Atlantic, in American Atlanta, but a little later, in the fourth quarter. Here, by the end of the year, it is planned to produce 50,000 pairs.

According to company representatives, the main motivation for the new project is the need to reduce the development and production time for new products. It now takes about a year to design and implement new designs, but with the help of rapid prototyping and additive production, new models of shoes can be brought to the market faster, and at the same time offer the possibility of customization.

Back in 2017, Adidas first released 3D printed shoes to retail. A limited batch of sneakers called 3D Runner was offered in only three branded stores located in London, New York and Tokyo. Due to the high demand, it was possible to purchase unique shoes worth $ 333 per pair only by reservation.
