If you want, you can make good money on 3D printing of whistles and spinners, but to fill your wallet tighter, you need more serious products. At the Solemart sneaker fair in Berlin, 3D-printed Adidas sneakers worth ten thousand euros were found their lucky owner.
In fact, these shoes are much cheaper if purchased from the manufacturer or at retail. The problem is different: the 3D-printed sneakers of the famous German brand are still produced in strictly limited quantities. Futurecraft 3D was the first Adidas shoe to feature a 3D printed sole and was released in just a few hundred pairs. The cost of each was estimated at about $ 600, but almost all of them were spent on gifts or were raffled off at contests.
The winners of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro sponsored by a German company became one of the lucky winners. A special edition was released for them, repeating the appearance of the original Futurecraft 3D, but in black. Most interestingly, these shoes allow runners to literally sparkle with heels made of gold, silver and bronze.
But the first in retail was the 3D Runner model, which is a development of Futurecraft 3D, but at a lower price of $ 333. The model was offered only in brand stores in London, Tokyo and New York, and in order to avoid crush and fights, the company made a mandatory purchase with a prepayment.
Adidas has recently started talking about the mass production of 3D-printed shoes, announcing in April this year the next generation sneakers - Futurecraft 4D. The fourth dimension in the name refers to the physical data of the users, since the shoes are supposed to be customizable. Like the previous versions, the highlight will be a 3D-printed outsole with a particularly "jumpy" design, and for direct production, high-speed photopolymer 3D printers from Carbon will be used.
The Futurecraft 4D sneakers should go on sale next year, and the price tag is unlikely to be in the thousands of dollars, like that coveted pair at the fair, because they will already be produced in rather large batches. The size of the first should be one hundred thousand pieces, while Adidas has expressed its intention to increase additive production until the volume is estimated at millions of pairs. As a last resort, you can always rely on the craftsmen from the Middle Kingdom, who managed to establish their own production of 3D-printed sports shoes under the Peak Sports brand.
