Especially for those who find it hard even to think about transporting a 3D printer, the Belgian company 3D Printers VDB has recently developed a prototype 3D printer called Foldie 3D FFF, which has a rather unique feature. Namely, the device can be folded and easily carried with you in a standard bag for a 19-inch laptop.

How did the company manage to do this? Firstly, the design of the 3D printer was completely redesigned - now it is built on the basis of the design of the 3D printer H-bot, but only instead of belts it uses cord cord (what is this), which makes it even easier and more flexible. Secondly, the Foldie 3D FFF is equipped with a motorized work platform with a lift. As Ivan Van den Bosch, CEO, explains, the lifting mechanism has a fairly simple structure, so any user can easily raise or lower the platform. When folded, the 3D printer, along with all the necessary components, including a power source and print media, is no larger than a 19-inch laptop.

This remarkable ultraportable device is currently under development. However, now the creators are saying that the Foldie 3D FFF 3D printer will have a cost quite affordable for most users. This will be achieved including through the use of less expensive and affordable components. For example, a regular 19-volt laptop battery can be used as a power source.

In addition, Foldie 3D FFF will have open source software, firmware can be downloaded for free from the Thingiverse website, and many of its parts can be printed on a 3D printer. For the final assembly of the device, you need to purchase only a few electronic components, screws and bolts. The resulting cost of the Foldie 3D FFF 3D printer, as the developers suggest, will be about $ 340 (TR 25), which is quite good for the 3D printing market.

Foldie 3D FFF is expected to come with an optional heated platform made of silicone and equipped with a temperature sensor, heater and separate power supply.

The 3D printer is equipped with one extruder, and the working platform has an automatic calibration function. The company has not yet specified the volume of the assembly, but says that the 3D printer is capable of printing objects with a height of 150 mm.
