Latvian Paralympic fencer Polina Rozhkova performs in a personalized 3D printed back support corset.

During her career, the athlete has tried many standard corsets, but she has not found a convenient option. Impressed by the growing possibilities of additive technologies, Polina decided to seek help from Baltic3D, the official distributor of Stratasys 3D printers in Latvia.

The company's specialists helped to design a corset, exactly repeating the contours of the back of the fencer in the area of the lower back, which accounts for the most severe loads. Nylon 12 was chosen as the material, and the Stratasys Fortus 450mc 3D printer was used for printing.

“Polina’s story has absorbed all the great things about 3D printing technology and their ability to change lives. The ability to quickly print low-cost personalized solutions takes us from a world where we have to choose between standard sizes in a world where users have unprecedented freedom of choice. We are very proud of our participation in this project and are glad that we were able to help Polina with a difficult design and give her the opportunity to compete at the highest level, ”commented Andy Middleton, President of Stratasys Europe.

The athlete herself is happy with the new accessory. “During my professional fencing career, I was looking for an alternative and, importantly, sports corset that would allow me to fencing and move freely without restrictions or pain. In this sport, the lower back has to withstand enormous loads, and therefore I needed a version that could be easily replaced in case of breakdown during training or competition. I am delighted with the result - the 3D-printed corset is not only pleasant to look at, but also gives an incomparable sense of freedom, ”said Polina Rozhkova.
