The development of a new product is not only the choice of a general concept and the correct selection of components combined by engineering and software code in a working system, but also work on the design.

Creating our new Spectrum 3D scanner, we paid special attention to functionality and usability, without forgetting about the appearance. The design concept developed by our partners, Art-Up Industrial Design Studio, was taken as the basis. Taking into account all the design features and production requirements, we finalized the model and the prototype 3D scanner acquired the following form:

The next issue to be solved was the color scheme and the distribution of colors on the details of the scanner body. It was decided to use company colors - black, red, white, as well as gradations of gray. At the same time, no more than three colors should be used in the design of the case.

We also looked at alternatives in shades of gray:

Two-color solutions came to the “finals”, but all team members understood that the real molded plastic case, in any case, would be different from the picture on the monitor screen. For the case, two-component polyurethane was used, which in physical properties is close to ABS plastic. Due to its impact resistance, wear and heat resistance, it is an ideal material for the body of a 3D scanner. But the answer to the question "What color is better?" to be found in practice.

In the first batch, both black-red and white-gray Spectrum scanners were ordered. The first who fell into the hands of the freshly baked Spectrum were our engineers who tested the scanners day and night. They noted a more successful combination of colors of controls, fasteners and body parts of the white version. In addition, in continuous operation, the white scanner performed better - the case turned out to be less easily soiled, fingerprints are invisible on it, and the light color scheme tuned it to a more relaxed work and gave inspiration. Taking into account the opinions of the entire RangeVision team and our partners, we came to the conclusion that the white color of the case is more suitable for Spectrum.
