Nissan made an unusual advertising move, ordering a full-size sculpture of the best-selling Nissan Qashqai, which was almost entirely “drawn” using 3D pens.

An unusual masterpiece was created by a team of artists led by Grace du Pres. Instead of hammers and chisels, sculptors used 3Doodles 3Doodler and polylactide filament.

In total, it took three weeks to work and almost fourteen kilometers of plastic bar, while the Nissan plant in Sunderland, UK, collects 58 real cars of this model per hour.

The result was an anatomically correct sculpture with a length of 4.4 and a height of 1.6 meters, which undoubtedly set a kind of record. It turned out to be more difficult to reproduce some of the elements than others, and therefore the artists compromised by glazing, mirrors and some other details with gray plastic.

The rest of the sculpture exactly repeats the appearance of the car, right down to the antenna and stereo system. Apparently, the only real component was the Nissan emblem, which adorns the grille.

Du Pres is a graduate of the King’s College of Art, recently working exclusively with 3D pens and serving as the official representative of 3Doodler. “I have been drawing with 3D pens 3Doodler for several years, but this is by far my most ambitious work,” says the artist. “The project clearly demonstrates how far 3D printing technologies have advanced and their availability to anyone.”
