Hong Kong-based Mayc has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support yet another, third-generation photopolymer 3D printer based on an LED LCD mask.

The previous two models, the D2K Illuminate and D2K Plus, were also successfully funded by Kickstarter and differed in size and resolution. In terms of technical characteristics, the new variant called "D2K Insight" sits in the middle and costs less than both predecessors.

“Our goal with D2K Insight was to provide ordinary people - artists, artisans and small business owners - with a reliable, high-resolution 3D printer that doesn't have to empty their pockets,” explains the team.

To reduce costs, the developers have used an increasingly popular scheme based on the use of relatively inexpensive LCDs with LED backlighting instead of digital projectors or laser emitters. According to the developers, the special design of the guides and the Z-axis drive eliminates "ringing", and the automatic calibration of the platform mounted on the ball joint takes almost no time.

A single board of its own design is used to control the operation of a 3D printer, and an onboard module with a five-inch color touch LCD screen, or a browser application or mobile devices with the ability to connect via USB or Ethernet port can be used as an interface.

The custom illumination module operates at 405 nm and provides 2K resolution (2560x1440). The construction speed along the Z axis reaches 25 mm / h with a layer thickness of 50 microns and an exposure time of four seconds per layer. The minimum layer thickness is 10 microns, and the size of the build area reaches 132.5x74.5x130 mm.

The D2K Insight 3D printer has a retail price tag of $ 1,500, but Kickstarter pre-orders are still available for $ 599 with shipping next February. In addition to the printer, the kit includes a half-liter container of photopolymer resin, a spare cuvette, two protective Teflon films, a power supply and a network cable (Ethernet). Additional consumables in nine shades can be ordered for $ 58 per liter.
