Markforged has expanded its line of branded composites printing machines with two new devices based on the Markforged Mark X 3D printer.

In connection with the emergence of new products, the company decided to rename the original Mark X to Mark X7, while the new 3D printers were designated Mark X3 and Mark X5. The Mark X7 entered the market last October and continues to be the flagship offering of the Massachusetts company. The main feature of these 3D printers is the ability to print plastic products reinforced with continuous carbon fiber. An interesting fact is that the Mark X7 is equipped with a laser sensor for quality control: printing can be paused at any time and the top layer can be scanned for discrepancies with a given digital model.

The Mark X3 and Mark X5 are broadly based on the Mark X7 design, but offer higher affordability with somewhat more modest options. While the Mark X7 is priced at $ 69,000, the Mark X3 costs “only” $ 36,990, but the budget option is strictly for printing with Onyx carbon fiber composite and is not capable of stacking continuous fibers. The Mark X5, on the other hand, works with the same Onyx, but is capable of continuous fiberglass reinforcement and costs $ 49,900. All three 3D printers have the same build area, reaching 300x270x200mm, and print in layers with a minimum thickness of 50 microns. Finally, the company offers customers the ability to upgrade from one device to another by installing additional modules and without having to purchase a new 3D printer.

“For three decades, 3D printers have had to juggle durability, time and affordability without being able to get everything at once. Our industry line and the new Metal X 3D printer removes these limitations. Users will be able to print finished parts throughout the day with job-optimized durability at an affordable price. We don't want people to get stuck with one 3D printer model in their hands and get upset about the lack of functionality present on other devices. If you know that durability is important to you, but are not ready to spend $ 70 thousand, buy the device for thirty thousand. The bottom line is that we always make our printers upgradeable. When you need more durability, you can upgrade the X3 to X5 or even X7 - you never have to settle for the original hardware and regret not choosing other options, ”explains Founder and CEO Gregory Mark.
