US-based 3D printer manufacturer MakerBot has launched a new cloud-based educational platform, My MakerBot.
My MakerBot is a browser-based platform for Chromebooks that connects 3D printers on the web, allowing you to download and prepare 3D models, then print to any printer on the network and monitor your workflow remotely. The new solution significantly expands student access to 3D printers and simplifies the control of the system by teachers.
Especially for teachers, the company has released a tutorial with courses in 3D design and printing, as well as nine ready-made lesson plans. More than eighty leading STEM educators have contributed to the development of the guide. All projects in the manual are accompanied by step-by-step instructions indicating the standards to which they comply and comments by the authors. The total number of curricula available in the specialized library Thingiverse Education reaches almost three hundred.
Thanks to the participation of Autodesk, the popular free 3D modeling software Tinkercad is integrated into the new platform. Users can design, export projects to My MakerBot, and print from the comfort of their web browser. The official representative of MakerBot in Russia is NISSA Digispace.
