The Israeli company Nano Dimension has become famous in the world of 3D printing for its innovative technology for the manufacture of complex electronic printed circuit boards. It was founded literally in 2012, but in a short time it has become a leader in the 3D printed electronics market and even got into the list of the Best Manufacturers in 3D Printing, compiled by the Gartner agency last week.
Nano Dimension announced the conclusion of cooperation with the Israeli biotechnical firm Accellta Ltd. for the purpose of laboratory testing of a 3D bioprinter for the production of stem cells. Accellta, which was also founded in 2012, belongs to the Alfred Mann Institute of Technology in Israel and develops proprietary stem, progenitor and differentiated cell technologies for new drug trials, as well as regenerative medicine and research. Testing of the experimental version of the new completely unique 3D bioprinter began in the second quarter of 2016, namely on April 1.
By combining 3D printing, biotechnology and experience, Nano Dimension and Accellta may well find the key to 3D bioprinting large volumes of stem cells in no time. The unmatched 3D spray technology was developed by Nano Dimension specifically to quickly and accurately fabricate complex objects from multiple materials. However, there is a possibility that it can be adapted and applied in other areas of composite production, for example, in the field of 3D bioprinting.
Amit Dror, CEO of Nano Dimension, explains in a press release: “3D printing of living cells is a technology that is already playing a huge role in medical research. However, in order to fully unleash its potential, it is necessary to increase the speed and resolution of printing, the viability and controllability of cells, the availability of the technology itself, and also think about the discovery of new printing technologies with bio-ink. By combining our high-speed, high-precision spray technology, suspension stem cell technology and Accellta's Induced Cell Differentiation expertise, and the support of some of the world's most renowned experienced engineers and scientists, we aim to achieve our goals of increasing print quality and speed to never-before-imaginable limits. ".
Accellta Ltd. has already played an important role in the promotion of bioprinting. With truly unique and innovative suspension cell growth systems, this company is capable of producing billions of high quality stem cells. Of course, such cells are vital for the development of 3D bioprinting and the development of bio-ink, especially when it comes to complex tissues and large organs.
This project could be the beginning of a long and productive collaboration, because representatives of Nano Technologies and Accellta speak with one voice about the possibility of establishing a new joint division that will search for solutions in the field of 3D-bioprinting.
The 3D bioprinting industry is developing by leaps and bounds. For example, market research firm IDTechEx estimates its revenues will grow to $6 billion in 2024. We all know how important it is to healthcare, drug discovery and clinical trials, toxicological analyzes, and the production of living tissues and organs.
