The city of Ivanovo, famous for brides, drummers and an enterprise that manufactures containers for the disposal of atomic waste, will acquire another attraction - a mobile fab lab equipped with CNC machines and 3D printers.
The project under the proud name "Technomobil" will surf the expanses of the Ivanovo region, making technical education accessible to residents of small towns. Some of the classes will be held directly on board, and the rest - on the territory of the educational institutions visited. The idea belongs to the fund for social assistance and support of the population "Good Deed", which received funds in the amount of almost three million rubles as a result of the competition for grants of the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society. The project is headed by Alexey Kiryanov, director of the local center for technical creativity "Novatsia".
The target audience of Technomobile should be schoolchildren of grades 8-11, students and entrepreneurs. Twenty-six reference sites scattered throughout the area will serve as bases for the mobile laboratory. The program will include such areas as "Graphic Design Fundamentals", "Robotics" and "3D Modeling", plus practical exercises on laser machines, 3D printers and other production equipment.
“As a result of the project, it is expected to increase the accessibility of acquiring initial skills in building technological processes, acquiring knowledge on the basics of entrepreneurship in the Russian Federation, as well as the formation of clear concepts when choosing a profession, and obtaining specific knowledge in the chosen technical profession for schoolchildren in small towns and districts of the Ivanovo region. Schoolchildren living in small towns and districts of Ivanovo region will have the opportunity to engage in technical creativity, ”the grant application says.
Similar mobile fablabs appear in other countries. For example, last summer, employees of the 3D printing center in Aachen, Germany, converted an elderly shuttle bus into a mobile production laboratory. The double-decker vehicle (pictured above) is equipped with computer terminals, a dozen 3D printers, including a professional Stratasys Objet 24, and a bar and lounge.
